Diabetes and COVID-19 are really big concern, diabetic patients who are aged are not able to recover fast if infected with the coronavirus. COVID -19 is everywhere and more than 100 countries have been reported to coronavirus outbreak. In China, about 7.3 % of COVID -19 death are diabetic patients. The numbers are scary but the risk is high only if you get affected by the virus. Diabetes and COVID-19 are making an impact on death rates.

Risks for diabetic patients

Type 1 or type 2 diabetes doesn’t have any specific or individual risk. Before getting the virus infected the risk of getting the virus infection is the same as of the normal people. But after getting infected the recovery rate is very low for diabetic patients.

If diabetic people are not maintaining the proper blood sugar level then there is more possibility of diabetes-related complications which may lead to many cardiovascular diseases. The people with cardiovascular diseases are also high at the risk of getting very low recovery after getting infected by the virus.

Tips to follow when you get sick

If you feel like sick or having any kind of symptoms of COVID-19 then make yourself prepared for it

  • Make a contact list about your physician

  • Keep a note about your diabetic and general health status

  • Drink water frequently. If you feel difficulty in that take many sips of water with regular intervals of time

  • Check your blood sugar level for every 15 minutes

  • If you feel that your blood sugar level is lowering make sure have some sweet containing foods which can be digested easily like candies, jellies, juice and after some time check for your blood sugar level for any increase

  • Check for ketones if you have a reading of high blood sugar level for more than 2 times in a row

  • Checking for ketones will reduce the difficulty of diabetic ketoacidosis.

  • Contact your doctor or health center immediately if you have medium or high ketones.

  • Wash your hands properly and make yourself isolated.

Symptoms of COVID-19 includes

  • Dry throat

  • Cough

  • Fever

  • Shortness of breath

  • Pain in chest

Precautions for Coronavirus outbreak

  • Wash your hands with soap or 60% alcohol rub

  • Don’t touch your nose, eye or mouth with your hand

  • Stay away from people who are sick

  • Avoid crowded places

Take proper precautions it is better to avoid crowded areas and keep yourself clean to get avoided from coronavirus infection. Since the death rate below 5% which implies 95% are alive which gives us large hope we can eradicate COVID-19 with proper precautions and staying at the home.

Diabetes and COVID-19 are only scary if you get infected to coronavirus infection so be precautioned.
